If you have some extra décor you want to put out and no place to display it, add a table behind your couch (if your couch isn't against a wall). Even when you leave the main space of the living room you can enjoy more décor. They free up the space taken up by other types of shelves, and they look nice.

The oval glass topped coffee table takes up very little visual space. Haley WeidenbaumA minimalistic, "L" shaped sectional sofa is a great way to maximize seating in a small living room. A pitch-perfect example is shown in this space by Los Angeles based interior designer Haley Weidenbaum. Zero square footage goes to waste with the three-piece nesting coffee set. Not only do they provide extra function when needed but the two smaller tables instantly disappear when tucked under the large one. A leather woven chair is both a stylish and compact touch that does not add visual heft.
Keep It Minimalist
The simplest way to get the look is to mix some natural textures with all those design-led pieces and to add plenty of throw pillows and blankets to your seating to soften up the space. Labl StudioHere is another example of how playing with scale works in a simply designed small living room. Here the interior designers at Labl Studio based in New York City combine a mini Chesterfield sofa with what appears to be a giant-sized desk lamp.

Not only do mirrors inspire us to look at our real selves, but they also make great room décor. Even a living room looks fabulous with a mirror, and it will make the space look larger. If you want something different than the usual couch in your living room, consider getting an elegant chaise lounge.
Keep the colors minimal
When you opt for a television mounted on the wall you open your living room up for more fancy furniture and more space for lovely décor. This cabinet is beautiful and gives you space to store movies and such. Throw pillows make for inspiring décor, and have lots of benefits.

After the layout, you're going to want to start thinking colors. If you are unsure to start, we'd always say base a scheme around the largest piece of furniture in the room – a dream sofa. Add an easy pop of color with a bright chair, just as blogger Oh Joy! Complete the room with a gallery wall, plenty of plants to bring the outdoors in, and chunky knits to make things cozy.
Interior design made simple
I opted to use only four pillows this season, in two prints, rather than my usual six pillow combo. You’ll notice a couple of more natural elements styled here on the shelves as well. I needed simple, no fuss changes for the season, and it’s pretty amazing with just a few small details, it feels like summer instantly. Before I begin sharing our summer home decor in our living room…our family lost our fuzzy baby bunny, Oscar, suddenly last week.

Adding a pop-up color into your neutral color scheme can give the impactful look you want. In this simple living room, the eye-catching red color of the sofa stands out between the neutral colors and makes a statement. The gray armchair, beige rug, and black floor lamp create a harmonious look around the sofa. Black framed colorful paintings beautifully make the final touch. Decorating around the TV is a constant challenge for interior designers.
Add Fresh Greenery
A little greenery will always make a room feel more put together. It's also helpful to follow feng shui design principles by choosing and styling a plant that promotes both balance and good fortune. The living room is arguably one of the most important spaces in your home. It's where your family gathers at night, you wind down on a Saturday afternoon, and where your guests first rest their eyes when entering your home. It's natural to make this space look and feel its absolute best.
Go big and bold in your living room, even if the base color of your room is somewhat drab. The grays look glorious paired with bright pink, yellow, and blue. A black-and-white palette works in any size space, but it can give a small living room a polished, pulled together feel that takes the focus off of size.
Your living room doesn't have to be all bright colors to be inspiring. This blend of black and white has a fresh look, and the lemony yellow additions really bring out a joyous vibe. Choosing a coffee table with slender legs or an otherwise an airy base will allow light to flow through and help create a sense of airiness. In this snug historic row house living room from Brexton Cole Interiors, a modern coffee table with a solid wood top and a delicate base helps to make the space feel functional and current.
The minimalistic design on this couch allows the cute cat decorative pillow to be the star of the show. We love how this living room uses different patterned decorative pillows on the two matching wingback chairs. Create a vintage look by painting the table white, and then stenciling on your favorite French saying.
They pull the colors of a room together, they let you create a mish-mash of designs, and they're comfortable. You can still have a delightfully inspiring living room even if it has to share space with your dining room and kitchen. The perfectly placed sectional couch and awesomely designed rug make the living room area feel like it stands alone. Side or coffee table, find just the right décor to inspire joy in your home. Plants that need low light, things that make you think creative thoughts, and lovely-smelling candles are all great choices. If you have your living room and den side-by-side, letting the same colors flow through both rooms will create a bigger looking space.

The black and white color scheme offers an elegant and timeless living room design. The white sofa stands out in front of the black-painted wall. Ray armchair and gray rug provide a smooth transition between black and white.
Transform With Wallpaper
Modern living room ideas have become hives of activity for anything from relaxing, to socializing, Zoom workouts, mindful meditations, and home working. So that you can separate the ‘task at hand,’ try space zoning by creating dedicated areas for each activity. Designers Cecilia Sagrera and George Brazil of Sagrera Brazil Design created zones in this open-plan living area. Balance out the green by incorporating two shades, as she did with the sofa and wall color. Bring the outside in with pieces that take you to the beach, just as blogger Camille Styles did in her chic living room. "To create that ambiance, I place shells and coral on every surface, and most of the art on the walls reflects some far-flung beach locale."
